The last few years has seen the rise of the cute and corny Christmas Ads starting with the John Lewis advert of 2013 featuring a bear and a hare. When I first saw this advert I was captured by the cuteness of the woodland creatures. I think it was a smart move by John Lewis to use woodland creatures as this was during the trend of having a Christmas tree that was very much alive and looked like it was part of a forest ( I was guilty of this!). However, since this advert and John Lewis' attempt to steal Christmas, many other brands and companies have exceeded the bar they set with real star adverts. My personal favourite over the last few years was the Sainsbury's Ad of 2014 displaying the scenes that happened during WW1 where the soldiers came together and rejoiced in a game of football. This pulled on my heart strings and made me think of those that couldn't be home for Christmas. I have always said this is my all time favourite Christmas Ad , until today. In a seminar today we were shown the Burberry 2016 Christmas Ad. As a FCP student this really excited me and I was curious to see how a super brand compared to the brands that are frequently showing their Ads on the TV. Turns out its game over. I think that the Burberry advert is far superior to all of the other Christmas adverts. It may not pull on your heart strings quite as much as a cartoon boxer bouncing on a trampoline might but I think it is something everyone should see. It was almost like a trailer to a movie that I would definitely pay to see. I liked how it told the story of Thomas Burberry however still stays true to the brand with the many shots of the classic trench coat. I think that this advert will be a tough one to beat nevertheless I am curious to see what the future of Christmas Ads will bring.
