Well that's a wrap on year 1 of FCP at NTU. As the academic year draws to a close I thought i'd reflect on the year where I have learnt so much. Fashion, communication or promotion was not something I had studied before, so this course was something completely new to me. It is something I have always had an interest in but never had the opportunity to study. I came from A levels to this course where I studied, English Literature, Product Design, Psychology and German. None of these subjects let me express ideas as creatively and freely as this course has. My product design A level encouraged creativity however, was still pretty restricted on the content I could produce. So this course has been great in encouraging us to express our ideas and any ideas that we had. This has been mainly through the sketchbooks produced over the year. The sketchbook brief has been one of the parts of the course I have enjoyed the most over the last academic year. This was because it didn't have to be perfect. It was a place to gather all of our ideas and thoughts to show our development throughout modules. I like the combination of visuals and words we could express this through.

Another part of the course which I have enjoyed the most has been the blog brief. Although it has not been something easy to keep up with and sometimes struggling with what to write, it is something I am starting to get into more and hopefully next year will be a better reflection of that. My posts have tended to reflect my main interest at the moment, which is photography, so I need to try to make my blog more diverse in the future discussing more fashion related subjects.

One of the things I have struggled with the most about this year has been the indesign and photoshop work. I had done a little bit of work on photoshop before but not enough to have a bank of skills and indesign is something that was completely new to me and I think my reports have shown this. However, I do feel like I have developed my skills slowly over the past few months, starting to understand more about the layout of the documents I need to produce and how to visually express the content. It is something I am still not as confident in but will continue to develop my skills in by watching tutorials and learning from the Tuesday sessions and experience.

Overall, I have enjoyed my first year as an FCP student and look forward to year 2 and the projects ahead!
